Tanzanian national carrier Air Tanzania has taken delivery of a Boeing 767-300 freighter aircraft to support the airline’s cargo ambition.
The delivery of the Boeing 767Freighter adds to Air Tanzania’s fleet of 11 aircraft with an average of 4,1 years. This makes Air Tanzania one of the airlines in Africa operating the youngest fleet on the continent. It was a moment of pride for Captain Neema Swai who operated the ferry flight from Boeing’s assembly plant in Paine Field Airport in Everett with a technical stop in Casablanca, Morocco before arriving in Dar es Salaam to a presidential and water cannon salute welcome.
Speaking on the arrival of the freighter jet, Air Tanzania Managing Director Engineer Ladislaus Matindi said “We are thrilled to welcome the Boeing 767-300 Freighter to our fleet. The B767 will cater to the growing demand which was previously carried on passenger aircraft”. Matindi added that “The arrival of the aircraft will open opportunities for global businesses to transport commercial cargo goods to various parts of the world, which will boost national economic growth”.
CARGO ROUTING
Air Tanzania in a tweet on their official page announced cargo destinations that will be operated by the B767F linking some of Africa’s key trade cities to Dar es Salaam. Effective 26 June cargo operations will commence with flights to Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Mumbai and Dubai.
The whole cargo network includes Johannesburg, Harare, Lagos, and Nairobi. Further afield the aircraft will be deployed to support cargo uplift to and from Guangzhou in China. “The 767 will enable Air Tanzania to support a journey towards a more sustainable future and time-critical cargo scheduled across Africa and beyond. We are looking forward to expanding our imports and exports industry that require timely delivery” concluded Matindi.
